The Overcoats

Darryl Joseph-Dennie discovered the piano at the very young age of 3 and started taking lessons at Merriam School of Music at age 4. Now a teacher at Merriam, Darryl enjoys all styles of music but prefers playing mainly jazz, RnB, gospel and reggae. He has played many gigs in the city of Toronto and his passion for the keys is shown in every single performance. Darryl’s major influences include Robert Glasper, Bill Evans, Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, and Lauryn Hill to name a few.

Born and raised in London, Ontario, Mike Glendon displayed a love for music at a very young age.  Starting with his parent’s record collection, Mike would spend countless hours listening to everything from reggae, to free jazz, to rock and fusion.  He began playing piano at the age of 8 and by the age of fifteen had added clarinet, trombone, guitar, voice and saxophone to his repertoire. Mike played in various bands in high school before moving to Toronto and enrolling in the Jazz Performance program at Humber College.  Since graduating, Mike has kept himself busy playing with several bands and as a sessions musician. Also members of The Steady Rebels, Mike and Darryl enjoy experimenting as a jazz duo and are best know for their soloing abilities.
